Flurry of Activity!!!

This fall for me has been rolled all up in one word.....busy!!  I have never been so busy in all my life.  Every single day I either have somewhere to go, someplace to be or someone to attend...just something every single day.  Just this week I got together with five old classmates that turned into a 1:00 a.m. talk/cry/laugh-fest.  We all live live within 5 miles of each other and yet rarely get together.  This should not be, people.  The events that have fallen on us have been astounding.  Kelly is helping take care of her ailing father, just buried her mother-in-law and is awaiting the arrival of her first grandson.  Linda just buried her father and her oldest son just moved out of their home.  Angie just buried her mother, buried her sister and became a grandmother.  Lisa buried her daughter and the pain that goes with that is crippling.  Karla just buried her husband of 30 years.  I buried a 27 year marriage, gave my last daughter away to a wonderful man in marriage, had two precious grand daughters.  We had loads to talk about.  Loads.  Some of it was very sad and very heavy but mostly I can say we laughed.  And laughed.  Laughed until we cried at some points.  When we looked up it had somehow got to be one in the morning and we hugged, took down numbers and vowed to keep better in touch and not let tragedies pull us back together.  We have had revival at church which has been really good.  I have had three side photo shoot jobs that have worked out pretty good.  I am no pro but the people were pleased and the extra money is nice!  I tried a little photo to shoot with my favorite subjects yesterday but they put the un in uncooperative let me tell you.  Piper started by crying because she did not want to go home and take a nap.  Savannah did not want her sister to sit on the pumpkin and to say it went downhill from then on is a gross understatement.  Even my pumpkin rolled into the woods at one point.  At least that did force a smile out of my two little monkeys when I made their mama go get it!

As you can see Savannah is not happy that Piper gets to sit on the pumpkin.

Here is a little smile but Savannah refused to look my way.

I think Piper might enjoy the taunting a little too much!!

Even when Savannah got to sit on the pumpkin she was not so happy.

Here is mommy to the rescue!!

I titled this photo "Fall Fun".  Can't you just see the fun all over their faces???

Once A Black Knight...

On Saturday night our local high school hosted an alumni football game against a rival high school in our county.  Players from my own graduating class played.  Some really old guys!  They got together a squad of alumni cheerleaders too.  My sister cheered in high school so she signed up to cheer.  Let's just say that i have some great blackmail material for later!  My own two daughters did not sign up to cheer.  Megan is now a teacher there and said she would hear too much smack from her students (ha-ha) and Erica said with two little ones to watch during the game she better not.  Her husband Blake played.  He was an awesome linebacker in high school and he did a really great job Saturday night.  I saw him take two tackles in the first quarter.  Our local high schools mascot is a Black Knight.  We take football, basketball, baseball, softball, wrestling, swimming and soccer pretty serious around here. I have told my grandbabies that when they get bigger they too will be Black Knights as i was and their parents and so forth.  People come out in droves to support our home team and I am proud of each kid that plays or cheers.  The students love the fan support and the local news always on Friday nights recaps local football games and say that no school turns out fans like the North Davidson Black Knight family does.  The proceeds to Saturdays alumni game went to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Fund.  Great cause and I was so proud to see the pink shoes and socks the guys wore and the big pink hair bows in the  cheerleaders hair.  Of course the Black Knights won.Woo-hoo!  But Central Davidson Spartans fought hard.  They equally had many fans and all the money raised was for an awesome cause.  It was a lot of fun to see these guys play their hearts out and the girls to cheer them on....just like old times.  Poor Blake did say when it was over to Erica that he was sure outta shape and was glad he didn't have to run anymore that night.

Blake, Erica, Piper and Savannah before the fame.  Ready to play and win!!!

Becky and Brittany.  Ready to cheer the guys on!

Savannah was supporting her daddy with her #34 painted on her face.  She was great as long as you fed her!!

Both teams kneeling in prayer before the game.  So sweet and so touching that we still do this in our community.  This is a public high school too and we sure believe in prayer!

Sorry Spartans the sky was with us in a blaze of orange for the Black Knights!  Beautiful sunset.

Piper was screaming for her daddy on Aunt Kayla's shoulders.  Blake's mom, sister and grandpa came all the way from Wilmington, NC to watch the game.

Here go our boys out to the middle for the toss up.  Just like old times!

My funny son-in-law #34.  Pumping up the crowd like he did all four years he played in school.

We scored!!  the final score was a whopping 7 - 6.  Say yay for the old-timers!

My sister, Becky in the back...the worlds oldest cheerleader!

Blake is rocking the pink and black shoes and socks!

Even though life keeps on going I can say with confidence that my little corner of the world is dedicated.  Once a Black Knight you are always a ...Black Knight.

County Fair Time

For the last ten days or so we have had the Dixie Classic Fair in town.  It is a big deal around here let me tell you.  Who can resist pig races, fried snicker bars, kettle corn, candy apples and cotton candy, rides galore, animals and everything else under the sun!!  Also we have Christian music night and this year the headliner was Mandisa and Brandon Heath.  I didn't go that night but I went yesterday after church with my daughter, son-in-law and my grandbabies.  We really had fun.  Poor Savannah was sooooo sleepy though and she has a cold so she was not up to her usual happy, smiley self but she was still a trooper.  Piper had a blast though!

Piper was waving at her mommy when she whizzed by.  So sweet!!

Thank goodness Piper wanted to ride in the round car on the merry go round.  My "ride" days are over!

Here her daddy helped her win a big purple ball.

Savannah always has kisses for her daddy!

I was trying to sing my little Savannah to sleep.  Needless to say...I didn't.

Swinging high in the air.  I was cringing inside!

Savannah never feels too bad to not want to eat, though!!

Current Events

This country has gone plumb crazy.  Between the crime, the government shutdown and the potential debt ceiling crisis and the rest of what is all over the news including "Obamacare".  Well, I could just scream.  A friend of mine got her new health insurance bill and it has doubled.  Doubled!!  We people who used to be middle class to upper middle class are now just plain old poor folks.  We are the majority of the working people in this country.  The non-working people just keep on living on the system.  Sorry if that sounds ugly but it is the truth...I work for the school system and I see it every single day. People who live like every one owes them a living....and they get by with it and it just kills me.  The rich who none of this really affects at all.  What some people do not understand is that when you shut down the businesses and industries that the rich own....well they are the ones that employ the rest.  Depression here we come!  On a local level of current events.  Fall is just blooming all around us.  there are festivals and fairs and all kinds of stuff going on around my community.  On a more personal level.  I had dinner Thursday night with some sweet and precious women I go to church with.  We had dinner, a devotional and a time of prayer and sharing.  So sweet.  It is just precious to me that as women we can gather together and share our hearts with one another with safety and comfort.  God heard our pleas and we will continue to lift one another up in prayer.  On a side note last night I had a sleep-over with my sweet grandbabies.  Their mommy and daddy went to Asheville, NC for their four year anniversary and I stayed at their house because it is just easier on Savannah to sleep in her bed.  Poor baby has an icky cold and felt pretty crummy but she still tried to play outside in the leaves.  They are just so sweet I can't stand it!  I took a few (ha!) photos of them playing in a big leaf pile that my daddy raked up for them.

Piper really likes to just roll all in the leaves.

Savannah was hiding behind them with my Mama's new puppy, Bella.  Savannah loves Bella!!

Piper rolling around and having such a fun time!!

Sweet Savannah.  Even with a cough and a runny nose she still smiles most of the time.

Mimi, we are so tired of taking pictures....please put the camera down!!!

Punkin time

Today I went with Blake, Erica, Piper and Savannah to the Pumpkin Patch for a photo shoot.  It was a cool and very windy day.  The girls so did not want to have their pictures made...at all.  I took a zillion and I did get a few good ones.  Piper just wanted to find baby pumpkins and Savannah was thrilled to stand in the wagon and say, "I found you!"  We did have fun and the girls played in the corn teepee and picked out a little pumpkin to take home.  Autumn is such a wonderful time of year and I will probably take the girls back on another day and try to get some better pictures

Piper did like sitting on the big pumpkins!

Nobody wants to look at Mimi...or smile

Savannah just wanted to eat hay

This is most of the family shots went....oh well

Piper found her a pumpkin that she could carry.

Savannah did too!

Pretty Savannah...so sweet

Piper is growing up way too fast...sob...I'm crying

Mimi!!  I want to live in a corn house...it has corn in it!

How most of the shots went...Piper looking at the ground and Savannah turning around

Finally...a good one!  They are so precious to me.  I just love them.

Savannah wanted in the wagon and Piper just wanted down.  Erica looks great though!

Hey Savannah....I found you!!!

Mimi, this wagon taste like candy....mmm - mmm

Mimi, come smell these pretty flowers.

We went home afterwards and ate some really good chicken and noodles that Erica made.  Perfect supper for a cool and windy day.

Festival Time

Today I went with a friend to North Wilkesboro, NC to the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day for it.  The weather was bright, sunny and hot.  About 85 degrees!!  My kind of fall weather!!  I have lived in NC all my life and have never been to this particular festival.  It is a big one.  There were so many vendors I don't think we saw them all and the food!!!  Well, I could have ate myself silly.  The leaves have not turned too much yet but it looks like they will be so pretty.  I really do love the fall of the year.  There is so much to do all the time.  A different kind of festival every weekend and our local Dixie Classic Fair is here this week too.  Now there is terrific food.  A huge bonus is that on Wednesday night for a donation of five canned food items you get in the fair for free and you get to see Mandisa and Brandon Heath in concert...for free too!!  What's not to love about that??  I took a bunch of pictures today...take a look!

I was admiring this pottery from a craftsman that I actually went to high school with.  Dion Haynes, owner of Reedy Creek Pottery.  He was always the nicest guy and still is!!  Beautiful stuff.

I love this powder blue color.

Of course I bought a big ole bag of sweet kettle corn.  Freshly popped!

Here are some unique windchimes.  Old teapots and coffee pots with silverware dangling down.  Cute!

A young blacksmith learning and old craft.  I like seeing this kind of thing passed down.

Local people just playing instruments on the street.  We saw all kinds and they were all great.

The crowds got pretty thick at times.

This handmade butcher block my friend, Debbie, wanted very badly.  It was pretty expensive so she is saving her money for a show in the spring.  Such nice craftsmanship.

We parked by this darling little house.  I just loved it.  It had a great view of downtown.

The cutest side yard too.  Her flowers still looked great.

Another sweet house.  I love old Victorian style houses.

This one was so pretty too.  All nestled in the trees.

I love to visit the mountains of North Carolina.  I love the beaches too.  I must say, I think I live in the prettiest state in the union.  Proud to be a Tarheel!!!
