The Journey

I just got home from having dinner with two old friends.  I met Debbie and Kathy when I was fresh out of school and joined the work force.  29 years ago!!!  Even though each of us have journeyed different roads we are still close friends.  Debbie married late in life (47)!  She promised herself she would never settle for just any husband.  She got a jewel in Doug.  Kathy and her husband struggled with infertility for years and then had their hearts broken with an adoption that fell through in the United States.  They turned to Romania when communism fell and God placed two babies in their arms born just three weeks apart.  A boy and a girl.  They are now 21 years old.  They have been the most supportive of friends.  We have been through major surgeries, trauma, deaths, divorce and some fabulous times together.  God has carved our friendship journey with His very own hand.  Of this, I have no doubt.  They know without a doubt that when one of them calls, emails or sends up smoke signals the other two will pray for them.  I can rely on them for my own prayer concerns too.  Is that not what this Christian fellowship thing is really about??  The journey we take on this walk with Christ is a hard road.  How much easier is the journey with Godly sisters in Christ to help you and at times hold you?  For me, it is just a God-send.  Literally.  I believe that  God places the people in our lives to establish His will.  On my own journey I am trying to handle these gifts with the utmost care.  Afterall, they are His children on the same journey that I am.  We are all journeying for the same place....this is not our home.

I'm so glad for your close friends - they are THE BEST gifts in this life, I think!
